Zakaria said in a statement that he had contacted Li Zongwei earlier this week, who had not obtained permission to return to the horse at that time. Meanwhile, Zakaria urged the media and Malaysian people to respect the privacy of Li Zongwei and his family in the statement.
In late July, the Malaysian badminton association announced that Li Zongwei withdrew from the Badminton World Championships held in Nanjing, China and the Jakarta Asian Games due to respiratory problems. He then went abroad for treatment.
In late September, after news of Li Zongwei’s cancer on social media, Malaysia Badminton Association confirmed that Li Zongwei was diagnosed with early nasal cancer and was receiving treatment and recovered well.
