Xinhua News Agency, Kuala Lumpur, November 15, the Asian Football Association confirmed on the 15th that the 2019 UAE Asian Cup will introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) from the quarter-finals.
FIFA has defined the number of sessions where VAR is used, that is, from the quarter-finals, and the following two semi-finals and finals, a total of 7 games will introduce VAR.
VAR actually uses video playback technology to help the referee make a penalty decision. At present, it has been gradually applied to major European leagues such as La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A, and has appeared in this year’s Russia World Cup.
Windsor John, the secretary general of FIFA, said: “We decided to introduce VAR method only on September 26, and we still need to do a lot of preparatory work, to ensure VAR can play a role from the quarter-finals.”
The final stage of the 2019 Asian Cup will be held from January 5 next year to February 1 in 8 stadiums in 4 cities of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ain and Shah, UAE.
