International Olympic Committee President Bach “serious concern” International Boxing Federation (AIBA) organization

Xinhua News Agency, Rome, November 8th, when the president of the International Olympic Committee, Bach, attended the meeting in Rome on the 8th, he said that he was deeply worried about the International Amateur Boxing Federation (AIBA), which just elected the President of Uzbekistan tycoon Gafur Rahimov.

Rasimov is currently listed by the U.S. Treasury Department for suspected illegal heroin trading, prohibiting U.S. citizens and enterprises from having business relations with him. However, he himself denied the charge.

“AIBA’s problem is not just that someone is elected chairman.” Bach said, “in the past year, the International Olympic Committee has also expressed serious concerns about AIBA’s overall management capabilities such as anti-doping and finance.”

Bach added that the IOC has asked AIBA to provide self-inspection reports and rectification plans. The International Olympic Committee has not yet determined whether boxing can continue to enter the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. At the same time, it has threatened to throw away AIBA and organize Olympic boxing events on its own.

The IOC will hold a board meeting in Tokyo next month, at which time the issue of AIBA will be discussed.

“We don’t want athletes to be punished for the negligence of officials or organizations.” Bach said, “No matter what the decision is, we will try our best to provide opportunities for boxers to continue their Olympic dreams.”
